Do You Need a Guide for a 3-Pass Trek?
Blog Article
When I first thought about doing the Everest Three Pass Trek, I wondered if I needed a guide. The Everest Three Pass Trek is one of the hardest treks in Nepal. It covers three high passes: Kongma La (5,535 meters), Cho La (5,420 meters), and Renjo La (5,360 meters) (Nepal Tourism Board, 2023). The trek is about 166 kilometers long and takes around 18 to 20 days to finish (TAAN, 2023). Many trekkers say it is much harder than a normal Everest Base Camp trek.
Even though it is not a rule to have a guide, having one makes a big difference. The trails can be confusing, especially around the high passes. Weather changes very fast, and sometimes there is heavy snow even in good seasons. A guide knows the safe paths and can help in case of sickness or bad weather.
For me, having a guide was the best choice. I felt safer, learned more about the mountains, and enjoyed the trek without worrying about getting lost. If you are planning to do the Everest Three Pass Trek, I strongly suggest taking a guide. It will make your journey safer, easier, and a lot more fun!
